A Short Review About Creating The "Titanic" Movie.

History Of Creation

For the first time James Cameron thought about the possibility of making a film in 1987, when the channel «National Geographic» a documentary about the Titanic. But seriously prepare a script for the next movie, James Cameron began when his best friend Lewis Eberneti birthday producer gave him his work on "Titanic." By 1994, Cameron wrote a 167-page script, and in early 1995, invited his film company 20th Century Fox, which has contributed to the start-up costs of $ 3 million. Even before filming began on the studio Digital Domain, owned by James Cameron, was created computer animation of the collapse of the vessel, which was subsequently used in the film.

To explore the main target of their next film, Cameron in September 1995, personally made 12 dives to the Titanic on bathyscaphe "Mir-1 and Mir-2, aboard the Russian research vessel Akademik Mstislav Keldysh" and later also involved in the film. Brother of filmmaker Michael, being an engineer by profession, has developed a system of underwater cameras to film the exterior and interior liner of the deceased. During each dive, Cameron could shoot only 15 minutes because of the limited number of films, which could keep the camera.

Having decided that the most important stage, because of which the audience will go to the movie, will wreck the ship, James Cameron was invited to create special effects studios in 1917. Leading among these was the Digital Domain, where under the direction of future Academy Award-winning Robert Legato created visual effects for the film.

Filming began on Sept. 16, 1996, with an initial budget then was only $ 110 million.

For the filming was built brand new studio on the coast of Rosarito Mexico, just 40 kilometers south of the border with the United States. In the waters of the huge pool was built models of ships nearly life-size. The final model is created by the vessel reached 231 meters in length, whereas the real ship was 38 meters long (269 meters). But despite the grandiose scale of scenery, the number of duplicate vehicle components (such as windows) has been reduced, and some parts were modeled by only 90%. Also during the shooting process, instead of helicopters, it was decided to use 50-meter crane, placed on the rails. All this was done in order to reduce overhead costs.

During the filming crowd scenes the actors were dressed in suits, hung with gauges for the "motion capture". In this case, the creators used the services of forty people. When shooting incident in the crash ship people had used the simulated on a computer Water. This allowed us to clash with her more dramatic and natural. To shoot the scene where dolphins swim in front of the keel vessel, were used as the trained mammals, and their computer models that were created and superimposed on the main visuals studio Hammerhead Productions. Iceberg faced by the "Titanic", was made of foam covered with fiberglass and waxing.

Filming of the epic patterns that lasted about 7 months ended March 23, 1997. Nevertheless, to be held on July the same year, time-to-prepare new film failed. In Hollywood, rumors began to circulate that the "Titanic" could repeat the same situation as with the film "Gates of Paradise" (1980), the duration of which at one time had to be cut. Final budget for "Titanic" had risen to 200.1 million dollars, making it the most expensive film of all time (by mid-1997). Manufactured by 20th Century Fox in order to reduce the enormous costs had to be invited to cooperate with another company - a competitor's Paramount Pictures. Thus theatrical distribution of "Titanic" was divided into two parts: the North American distributor made Paramount Pictures, and throughout the rest of the world - 20th Century Fox.

Representatives of Paramount Pictures, acquainted with the picture of James Cameron, drew attention to too great a length film (more than three hours) and the incredible costs of filming. They have some doubts about the director's ability Cameron. James Cameron has defended his picture and warned everyone that is not going to cut the length of the movie. Although there were moments when he doubted that the rental of "Titanic" turns out to be successful.
